Care

Low-force adjustment

A hands-on adjustment of the spine and other joints, done with light pressure, for adults who want a lighter touch.

Your doctor uses the hands, or a small handheld instrument, to move a joint a short way with little force. You can sit, or lie on a table that lowers to a height that suits you.

Your doctor explains the risks before any neck adjustment, and no adjustment starts until you have said yes.

What to expect

A visit, in the order it happens

  • What a visit includes

A talk, a hands-on exam and then the adjustment, if you wish

    • Your choice of sitting or lying down

    • A pause whenever you ask

    • A pillow or a bolster where it helps

  • How long and how often

Your doctor sets a plan with you after the exam and changes it as you go. We do not promise a number of visits.

  • What we do not claim

We do not say an adjustment treats an illness or changes how long a condition lasts. People respond in different ways.

  • How it is paid

Medicare covers spinal manipulation, and you pay 20% after your Part B deductible. Exams and x-rays are not covered. We give you the cost in writing before care begins.

Questions

Questions about low-force adjustment

Does the doctor twist my neck?

Your doctor explains the risks before any neck adjustment and asks first. If you would rather we leave your neck alone, say so and we do.

What if I have had a fall or a new weakness?

Tell us first, and see your physician before you book if it is recent or new. The notice below lists the signs that need emergency care.

Is it covered by Medicare?

Spinal manipulation is. Medicare covers only spinal manipulation, so an exam or an x-ray is not covered, and we tell you the cost first.

Ask us before you book

Call and a person answers. We can go through this page with you.

  • A sudden severe headache or neck pain, dizziness, trouble speaking or seeing, new weakness or numbness, numbness in the groin or saddle area (between the legs and buttocks), or new bladder or bowel trouble needs emergency care now. Call 911 or go to an emergency room.
